Hallux Rigidus / Hallux Limitus

Hallux rigidus is a condition caused by arthritis at the base of the big toe. It commonly affects active and sporty people as a result of repetitive trauma or “wear and tear”. Other conditions such as gout and rheumatoid arthritis
(or other inflammatory issues) can also cause or contribute to halluxrigidus.

A shoe fitter will recommend wearing good shoes that are wide at the front and have stiff soles no help minimise flexing in the area of the stiff or rigid joint. A rocker style sole can reduce stress on the ball of the foot and therefore relieve pain.
